Residents and Workers Positively Rank Longmont as Welcoming, Safe, and Respectful with a Strong Work-Life Balance

LONGMONT, CO (July 7, 2021) – Longmont Economic Development Partnership (Longmont EDP) has released the 2021 Workforce Perceptions Study to gauge how Longmont-based residents, workers, and business owners view living and working in Longmont.

“The survey highlights the deep appreciation residents have for this community, and the active choice people make to live and work here,” said Jessica Erickson, CEO of Longmont Economic Development Partnership. “Longmont has a vibrant economy, it’s full of energy, it’s a great place to work, and it’s a wonderful place to raise a family.”

Key takeaways include:

  • Over half of respondents said that Longmont offers “the perfect work/life balance.”
  • 50% described businesses located in Longmont as “innovative.”
  • More than half rated the schools in Longmont as “good” to “excellent.”
  • Over half of respondents describe Longmont as safe, welcoming and respectful.

The survey posed questions that asked for respondents’ rankings in several categories including safety, cost of living, access to entertainment and restaurants, access to outdoor recreation activities, the quality of the schools, and workplace advancement opportunities.

“Affordable housing,” “access to housing,” and “cost of living” were ranked as very to extremely important to respondents and that Longmont had shortcomings in these areas specifically. Longmont EDP is working with elected leadership, the development community, and industry leaders to tackle these issues.

“Despite the uncertainty of last year, we continue to see growth and expansion in Longmont,” Erickson added. “Businesses move or expand here because of the availability of local talent, support they receive, and the opportunity to build and grow. People choose to work here because of the work-life balance, innovative companies, and strong business community. People live here for access to recreation, top-notch schools, as well as a feeling that Longmont offers a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment.”

Rigid Bits

“Longmont has been my home off and on since I moved to Colorado more than 12 years ago. I fell in love with the community and in 2015 decided to make it my permanent home. Because of the strong ties with the community, there was no question when I founded Rigid Bits in 2017 that it is where we would set our roots down. As an added bonus, NextLight is the fastest internet service provider in the country, which is a great fit for us.

Rigid Bits provides cybersecurity services to businesses nationwide, providing valuable insight to prevent attacks and respond immediately to cybersecurity events. Since 2017, we have supported 70 businesses across 17 states and a variety of industries. We have experienced 300% year-over-year growth with no signs of slowing down. Our plans are to continue to expand Rigid Bits’ services to support businesses in all industries with their cybersecurity needs, changing the way we work as the industry and threats change. As our growth continues, we will bring on new employees and just last month moved into larger office space in Longmont in preparation for our future”.
